Santa Arrives at Cold Spring Holiday Tree Lighting
Plans visit to Putnam

Due to the horrendous weather on Friday night, the elves of the Cold Spring Fire Department had to move quickly and rearrange Santa's schedule so that he could attend the delayed Holiday Tree Lighting at the Dock in Cold Spring on Saturday night, December 2, 2006.

Starting at 6:15pm, Greg Phillips set the scene with seasonal music and the approximately 150 children (of all ages) waited patiently while hot chocolate and cookies donated and served by Judy and Dante of Charlie's Deli in Nelsonville, kept everyone warm and jolly.

Finally, escorted by an honor guard of Fire Department vehicles with their lights flashing and sirens singing, Santa made his traditional ride down Main Street in the Fire Department's decorated pontoon "sleigh." A countdown was performed and before Santa could arrive, the beautiful tree donated by the Cold Spring Antiques Dealers Association, was lit, to everyone's delight.

Santa, despite the schedule snafu, took his time with each and every child, listening and noting their holiday wishes. He posed for pictures and gave out magic candy canes (donated by Pete's Deli in Nelsonville) to one and all.

The Main Street businesses were decked out with holiday lights, creating a welcoming atmosphere that will be extended next weekend as the shops are open till 8pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

If you missed the jolly old elf, he will be putting in another appearance this upcoming Saturday night at the annual tree lighting/ sing along held at Oregon Corners in Putnam Valley on Saturday, starting at 4pm. He will also be making the rounds of the communities courtesy of the local Fire Departments the next few weekends. See his schedule on the front page.
