Putnam Valley Woman Left Scene Of Accident

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the November 29, 2006 arrest of a Putnam Valley woman after she left the scene of a property damage automobile accident.

At about 9:50pm on November 29th, the Sheriffs Department received a report of a property damage accident in the parking lot of Hanlon's Steakhouse, located on Bryant Pond Road in Putnam Valley.

The caller also reported the driver left the scene. Deputy Sheriff John Alfano responded in order to initiate an investigation, which revealed Mallory Delaney, 20, of Oscawana Lake Road in Putnam Valley, was leaving the parking lot when she struck a parked car, before driving away. When Ms. Delaney called the restaurant a short time later, asking to

speak to the owner of the vehicle she hit, Deputy Alfano instructed her to respond to the Sheriff's Office.

Once at the Sheriff's Office, Deputy Alfano arrested Ms. Delaney and charged her with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, a traffic violation. Ms. Delaney was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor, after Deputy Alfano learned her license was suspended. The defendant was released on her own recognizance pending a December 19, 2006 appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court. The AUO charge is punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000, while Leaving the Scene of an Accident is punishable by a court determined fine.
