Putnam Valley Town Supervisor Tailors his Needs to Suit Himself Dear Editor
I believe Putnam Valley Town Supervisor Sam Davis should not be suing his own town board and the town's Ethics Committee for determining an appearance of impropriety on his part, based on the likelihood that he derived pecuniary benefit from hiring his live-in girlfriend of 20 years as his personal secretary and now "Confidential Aide" with no previous experience in this field at a starting salary of $46,000, $14,000 more than her predecessor earned from years of service. This issue has diverted the board's attention away from accomplishing anything since January of this year, mostly due to distracting conflicts.
Reportedly pocketing an additional $10,000 to do the town's budget finances instead of spending that time looking for ways to lower town taxes (a platform he campaigned on), I feel Sam should have hired someone else to do the accounting.
By suing the town, Supervisor Davis isn't showing sensitivity to the hardship residents are experiencing now from soaring school taxes based on their new property assessments (many almost 100% more than the previous). "House rich and tax poor", some folks were forced to move out. Chances are the legal fees will only increase town taxes even more.
