Place a Large Mirror at Canopus Hill Road Dear Editor:
Almost 20 years ago I was introduced to a shortcut to the Jefferson Valley Mall. Yes indeed, it was via Canopus Hill Road with the "Turn of Death". At the time, traffic was sparse on the road. Today it is a freeway in Garrison terms. No wider than one lane plus a few inches, one must say a prayer going up or down. Going up is a nightmare since drivers coming down the natural incline think they have the entire road to themselves. If someone wants a joy ride, they can come down my road that has at least 8 twists-but they are not blind.
I pay my taxes and am willing to take an 18.75% increase, but give me a large mirror at the turn so I can see potential danger. While paving the road about 8 years ago, were the engineers blind to the blind turn. Even though I don't live on the road, I'd be willing to pay for a mirror. My taxes don't cover trash collection or municipal water, so throw us a bone by giving us a mirror. I'd suggest a traffic light, but then my taxes would go up further.
Gee, the state pays for a weekly repair of Old Albany Post Road at the Canopus Hill Road intersection (for which I'm grateful). Why is it beyond common sense to give us a little safety device-it's so obvious that it's ridiculous that I need to write this letter.
