Voting Machine Timetable
To the Editor:

The clock is ticking. Starting in 2007, New Yorkers will no longer be voting on the lever machines. State law requires the Counties to choose between error-prone, insecure and more expensive touch screen machines or the easier to use, more accurate and more economical paper ballots/toptical scanners.

The Putnam County Board of Elections Commissioners have until no later than March 6, 2006 to choose the machines our county will be voting on. The time is now to make sure the Commissioners and ourelected county officials know that we do not want to vote on electronic voting machines. We should be smart and learn from the increasingly bad experiences of the other states that have now chosen electronic voting.

On December 10th, at 2pm, there will be a meeting at Desmond Fish Library to discuss this urgent and very important issue. Time is of the essence as stated above. We will be watching a short film dealing specifically with the voting machine issue in N.Y. State. Discussion of what we all can do will follow the film, I urge all Philipstown voters who worry about their votes being counted correctly in the next election to attend, We don't have the luxury of time to delay our action on this issue.
