Treated Poorly by Cemetery Caretaker
Dear Editor,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter to you. On 11/19/05, my daughter Francine (19) was murdered by an illegal drunk driver on 9D. We buried her in Cold Spring Cemetery on 11/23/05. Thanksgiving was the 24th & the next morning, we received a call from Mr. Logan at the cemetery. He was extremely disrespectful and indignant towards us and even went on to inform us that our daughter's remains did not belong to us and were under the cemetery's control and even questioned what kind of parents we were. Apparently, the agreement between him, us & the Clinton Funeral home was suddenly insufficient to him. What kind of a heartless person can make such a call to grieving parents?

During the next 2 months, Mr. Logan called and harshly made new "cemetery policy" demands on us. Each time we thought the issue was settled, Mr. Logan changed "policy" and demanded more. To this day, despite my requests to Mr. Logan and the President of the Cemetery Board, I have yet to see any "cemetery policy."

I recently went to Mr. Logan to make a payment and explain the remaining balance would be paid via the estate attorney, but Mr. Logan never even gave me a chance. He cut me off & declined to take any money from me and gave me the number of the cemetery's board President, to whom I called but never heard from.

In addition, Mr. Logan would not allow the foot stone for our daughter to be brought into the cemetery until we paid $180 for the cement base. Well, we paid that in May & here it is Dec & still, no cement.

This is crazy! We do not deserve to be treated in such an indecent manner! All I want is for our family to have plots together. I hear the cemetery has 40 acres of land so why are these particular plots such "hot items"? Is this any way for a business to treat grieving people? I spoke to several residents & heard similar stories. Some take their business elsewhere because of poor treatment. Perhaps that's why we have 40 vacant acres at the cemetery! I believe Mr. Logan should be mandated to attend Sensitivity Training.

Let this letter state publicly that I would like to fill the open position on the Cemetery Board. People deserve more respect that what was accorded both me and my family, & I will work hard at ensuring that future grieving families will not have to endure the kind of disrespectful, insensitive treatment that we have received.
