Rand Bridget Otten, PARC’s director of development, was honored as the 2006-2007 Professional Fundraiser of the Year at the Association of Development Officers Annual Philanthropy Day Awards Breakfast.

The event, held November 15, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza in White Plains, was attended by over 250 business leaders, fundraisers, and non-profit board members from throughout the Hudson Valley.

Ms. Otten was one of 10 outstanding individuals and organizations honored during the event. National Philanthropy Day marks a countrywide recognition of the nation’s entire nonprofit community, as well as the substantial impact philanthropy has on our society. This philanthropic spirit is a distinctive American tradition.

The 2006 Fundraising and Philanthropy Awards are presented to individuals and organizations whose hard work and dedication have enhanced philanthropy in the Hudson Valley area. Specifically for the Fundraiser of the Year category, the Association of Development Officers looks for an agency fundraiser who exemplifies dedication and service to the non-profit sector and professional fundraising community in the Hudson Valley area.

Ms. Otten started her career as a fundraiser in 2002, when she joined PARC, Putnam County’s leading service provider for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Ms. Otten has been an integral part of PARC’s growth

in these last four years, including expanding membership from 400 to over 1,400 people and raising the profile and success of all of PARC’s special events and creating eight new fundraising events and initiatives.

When not running the agency’s annual golf outing, cable broadcast, candlelight tour in Cold Spring, or creating new fundraisers like Table for 2, a fine dining passport, Rand is also PARC’s busy director of communications. She is in constant contact with local and regional news media, cultivating relationships with reporters and editors, and securing sponsors for ads.

Rand is also in charge of publishing PARC’s quarterly newsletter, PARC Avenues, most of the agency’s brochures, and the annual report, which acts as a fundraising stream for the agency, with ads from local businesses generating $10,000 a year.

An award winning journalist, Rand started her professional career at The Poughkeepsie Journal, with her stories appearing nationally in Gannett newspapers and in USA Today. Rand is a graduate of Ithaca College. She serves as a board member of the Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce, is a former board member of ADO, is an active alumni representative for Ithaca College’s Office of Admissions, and recently received a Certificate of Merit from the NYS Assembly for her work with PARC. In addition, Rand was recently nominated for inclusion in the 2007 Edition of Strathmore’s Who’s Who.

According to Susan Limongello, PARC’s executive director, “Rand has the unique ability to make PARC “personal” to donors and makes them want to give money to our organization. She is well liked and respected by donors…additionally, Rand has earned the utmost respect of board members and our executive administration. One of the things I admire most about Ms. Otten is her positive attitude and tremendous work ethic; she always has a positive, “can-do” attitude and it is contagious to other staff. She is certainly the most dedicated fundraiser I know.”
