Outside Line Repairers Recruit Apprentices

The Northeastern Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Outside Electrical Industry will conduct recruitment for 20 electrical (outside) line worker apprentices from December 11, 2006 through June 15, 2007, State Labor Commissioner Linda Angello announced.

Applications can be obtained by writing to the Northeastern Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, 1513 Ben Franklin Hwy., Douglassville, PA 19518; or online at

www.neat1968.org. The geographic jurisdiction of the NJATC includes all of New York State, excluding New York City. The testing fee is $25.

The committee requires that applicants:

•Be at least 18 years old.

•Achieve a qualifying score on the NJATC aptitude test.

•Have a valid NYS driver’s license - required to operate company vehicles; obtain a commercial driver’s license within 45 days of beginning employment.

•Pass a physical examination and a drug test at the sponsor’s expense — after acceptance for the program.

For further information, applicants should contact the New York State Department of Labor office located nearest their home or the sponsor at 610-326-2860.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
