Supervisor Davis Lawsuit Debate a Red Herring
Dear Editor:

I think that people of good faith can disagree about whether Supervisor Davis should be suing the town of Putnam Valley for what he perceives as unwarranted debasement of his reputation. However, to argue among ourselves about this is exactly what the enemies of PV want! This issue has become a red herring to divert attention from the far more damaging effects of large scale development which will certainly bury this town in taxes. One has only to look at Davis’ detractors to see which side of the development issue THEY are on.

History books are filled with similar scapegoating machinations by the true enemies of the state. And we know the outcome— not only for the scapegoats but also for the state itself..One doesn’t have to travel far into Macchiavelli’s “The Prince” to locate this powerful tool of kingship. One doesn’t have to travel far back in European or American history to identify keen students of Macchiavelli. Let’s put this domestic partner thing into perspective—before it’s too late. As many Putnam Valley residents point out, taxes are steadily rising in PV while our town board fiddles. Where we might differ in, is apportioning blame for the Davis/Powell issue. Shame on the board members who set up this red herring; shame on the other board members who allowed themselves to be manipulated into joining them. If these people aren’t capable of isolating this issue so that the business of government can proceed, they should ALL be replaced.
