Messages of Peace and Respect in ‘Sacred Run’ Presentation at Haldane
Dennis Cairl’s Grade 9 Honors class at Haldane High School was treated to an inspiring visit by local filmmaker, Andrea Sadler along with Rainbow Weaver from the Mohawk nation. Sadler was awarded an Innovation Common Threads Grant from the Haldane School Foundation to present her 55- minute documentary film called, “The Sacred Run, the Lotus and the Feather.”
The film documents a 4,000 km run across Japan for peace and environmental awareness, led by Native American Indian leader, Dennis Banks. The filmmaker, Andrea Sadler, joined the run, with camera in hand, to present the remarkable physical and spiritual journey of a diverse group of all ages who carried the simple message, that
“All Life is Sacred.” The message of promoting peace, encouraging respect for the Earth and all life, and of sharing the rich cultural diversity of the human race is what Andrea and Rainbow Weaver hoped to pass on to the students of Haldane.
After the film presentation, students were invited to join hands in a circle of life; that each individual is a gift to the world and that their unique vision and dreams matter. They were also invited to send a oneword wish to send to the world. With words like joy, respect, happiness, friendship, love, and peace we know the students of Haldane are beacons of hope for all of us.
