First-Ever Haldane Middle School Winter Concert a Treat for Listeners

The Haldane Middle School Winter Concert was held on December 6th. The program opened with the 6th Grade Chorus singing “Clap Your Hands” and “Once Upon a December” with pianist Martha Mechalakos. They also sang “Seize the Day” with piano accompanist Dominic Pidala. The 7th and 8th Grade Chorus followed singing “Little Saint Nick” featuring pianist Martha Mechalakos, speaker Tricia Merritt and soloists Tess Dul, Ana Ally, Mary Mechalakos and Caroline Turner. Next they sang “Song That Goes Like This” from the Broadway Musical Spamalot with pianist Mary Mechalakos, speaker Juliette Loeb and soloist John Kearns. They closed with “Watu Wote” with pianist Martha Mechalakos.

The 6th Grade Band played “Gallant Entry”, “Sleigh Ride”, “Star Wars” and “Groove-Meister”. The 7-8th Grade Band played “Hogan’s Heroes March”, “Hold the Line”, “Olympic Spirit” and “25 or 6 to 4.”

Congratulations to Band Director Debbie Contini and her Band Assistant Greg Casement. Special congratulations go to Meredith Nocton on her first Middle School Concert. Bravo to all of the talented musicians.

Special thanks to the Haldane School Foundation for coordinating the fundraising efforts in acquiring the wonderful new Yamaha Clavinova Electric Piano. Thanks also go to Martha Mechalakos for her piano accompaniment.
