Haldane Elementary School Winter Concert Shows Off Young Musicians
The Haldane Elementary School Winter Concert was held on December 7th. The Elementary Chorus opened the show singing “Snow is Falling Still” featuring flutist Elizabeth Casparian. Then they sang the Israeli folk song “Shalom Chaverim”. Two Native American songs “Ancient Mother” and “The Earth is Our Mother” followed with featured vocalists Emma Garshagen, Gerianne Martin, Claire Carroll, Allison Duncan, Cali Schweikhart, Katie Cunningham, Tyler Mell and Elizabeth O’Malley. The percussionists were Elizabeth Hynes, Johanna Iniguez, Mary Callaghan and Melissa Biavati and the flutists were Laura Gunderr and Brigit O’Malley.
They closed with “Wonka’s Welcome Song”. The Beginning Band played “Hot Cross Buns” featuring flutes and saxophones, “Jingle Bells” focusing on trumpets, “Mexican Hat Dance” featuring trombones, “Baa Baa Black Sheep” highlighting clarinets and “Yankee Doodle” with the focus on percussion. They closed with “Jolly Old St. Nicholas”. The Advanced Band played “Drum and Bugle Quick Step”, “Chariots of Fire” and “Star Wars”. They also performed “Groove- Meister” featuring soloists Kenny Doxey, Laura Gunder and Brigit O’Malley. They closed the show with “Eye of the Tiger”.
Congratulations to Meredith Nocton, Choral Director, on her first Haldane Elementary School Concert and to Debbie Contini, Band Director and Greg Casement, Band Assistant. Kudos to all of the fine musicians. Special thanks go to the Haldane School Foundation for coordinating the fundraising for the wonderful new Yamaha Clavinova Electric Piano.
