Canadian Cuisine Starts Off the Year at the BOCES’ Educated Palate

The Educated Palate, a student run restaurant on Putnam/ Northern Westchester BOCES’ campus, will start off the year featuring Canadian Cuisine on Thursday, January 11, 2007. The four-course menu includes Belgian endive & bibb salad, Canadian cheddar cheese soup, maple glazed center cut boneless pork chops with wild rice pilaf and roasted vegetable ragout, and apple cake with maple vanilla sauce for dessert.

The Educated Palate is operated entirely by students in BOCES’ Hospitality Career Academy, a program accredited by the Association for Career and Technical Education. Students in the Hospitality Career Academy learn all aspects of Culinary and Pastry Arts, while fulfilling high school graduation requirements in English, math, and social studies. Running the restaurant requires Culinary students to purchase, prepare, and serve food to local diners monthly throughout the winter and spring, providing them with hands-on, experiential learning…and a great excuse for area residents to visit the BOCES Yorktown campus.

Additional restaurant dates and themes are: Eastern European Cuisine on Thursday, February 8; Irish Cuisine on Thursday, March 15; French Cuisine on Thursday, April 26; Asian Cuisine on Thursday, May 10. With limited restaurant seating capacity and traditionally high interest, reservations in advance are strongly suggested. Cost is $20 per person and seating begins promptly at 11:45am. For reservations or additional information please call (914) 248-2210.
