Garrison School Shares the Holiday Spirit with the School Community
On December 7th and 19th, the Garrison School presented two inspiring holiday concerts. The first concert which was performed by the 4th and 5th Grade Band and Chorus and the Middle School Band and Chorus included selections that made the heart sing. The Beginning Band played Good King Wenceslas; Au Claire De La Lune; Dreidel, Dreidel; When the Saints Go Marching In and Countdown to Christmas. The Advanced Band played Linus and Lucy; Valley Forge March; and Concerto for Sleigh Bells. Both stage and audience were filled with smiling faces as the 4th and 5th Grade Chorus performed Pat-a-Pan; S’vivon and Spring Fever in December. The Middle School Chorus performance of Bidi Bom was followed by their rendition of Sleigh Bells which was also choreographed by seventh grader, Elizabeth Richter and became the highlight of the evening as the middle school girls danced along with the music. The program concluded with a song entitled, When the Lights All Shine. As the chorus sang, the performers took us around the world turning on a hand held light for each country gradually illuminating the entire stage. There was a peace and tranquility that was felt by all.
The K-3 children performed their concert entitled Holiday Wishes on December 19th. The tune, Holiday Wishes, What Are We Wishing For remains a favorite and is still sung by children as they prance down the school hallways. There was excitement in the air as Second Grade Teachers, Ms Wiese and Mrs. Dodge participated as their classes sang They Test Ye Merry Gentleman. The audience cheered as the Third Grade students wished for a snow day as they sang, Our Good Principal Looked Out. This number included guest appearances by Mr. Timmons, Mrs. Colucci and, of course, Mrs. I. For the
Grand Finale of the evening, the entire group of K-3 students returned to the stage to sing, What the World Needs Now is Love. Third graders, Marina Martin and Isabella Convertino brought the house down as they performed their solos in this finale.
The staff and students of the Garrison School extend heartfelt thanks to Kurt Heitmann and his crew for providing exceptional sound and lighting and to Art Labriola and Peter Rundquist who provided outstanding accompaniment. Special thanks go to Mrs. Karen Bresnan and all the children who prepared and performed so beautifully.
In keeping with the holiday spirit, each of the concerts provided a balance of different seasonal traditions and an opportunity to celebrate all. The Garrison School staff and students wish everyone a very Happy Holiday Season and a Happy New Year ahead.
