County Legislature Approves Sales Tax Increase
Lawmakers blast freshman State Assemblyman
Putnam County Legislators approved another increase in the County sales tax last week. At a special meeting convened on July 19, six of the nine lawmakers were present for the 5 to 1 vote in favor of raising the county's portion of the sales tax by half a percentage point. Full Story
Putnam Valley Revises Noise Law to Curb Disturbing and Offensive Noises
A Resolution to amend Chapter 82 of the Code of the Town of Putnam Valley entitled "Noise" was adopted by the Putnam Valley Town Board at their meeting held on July 18, 2007. Town Attorney David Gordon says the intent of the revised law is to curb the making and creating of disturbing or offensive noises in Putnam Valley. Full Story

It would be difficult to argue that Putnam County's rural roads are not a wonderful local resource, one that is extremely pleasing to the eye. It would be at least as difficult to suggest that all roads should not be safe for those who travel them - whether on your way home from work or simply out on a weekend excursion. Full Story
