Putnam County Health Department Urges All to Make a Renewed Effort to Quit Smoking in 2007

New Years is a time when many smokers make a renewed effort to try to quit smoking. This year, rather than quit alone, pick up the phone and get some help. The New York State Smokers’ Quitline at 1-866- NY-QUITS (1-866-697-8487) offers free confidential counseling.

While quitting is difficult and may even seem impossible to some, with a plan, it can be done. When you call the Quitline, their stop smoking specialists we will help you develop a plan that will work for you by helping you…

·Pick a quit day ·Identify smoking triggers and ways to cope without lighting up ·Assessing

whether stop smoking medications such as the nicotine patch or gum are something you should consider using to help you quit ·Linking you to local stop smoking programs in your area

Trained stop smoking specialists are available weekdays from 9am to 9pm and weekends from 9am to 1pm. If you call during off-hours you can leave a message and they will call you back. Callers can also order a free stop smoking guide or listen to the daily quit tip.
