Electricians Recruit Apprentices

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 363, will conduct recruitment from January 2 through June 8, 2007 for five apprentices, the State Labor Department announced today.

Applications can be obtained at union headquarters at 67 Commerce Drive South, Harriman, Monday through Friday, from 9am to 4:30pm, the first full business week of each month.

The union requires that applicants:

•Be at least 18 years old. •Have a high school diploma with a passing grade in algebra or an equivalent high school mathematics course. •Live within the local’s geographic jurisdiction - all of Rockland, Orange, Ulster, Dutchess and Sullivan Counties; and parts of Greene, Delaware and Putnam Counties. •Have reliable transportation to work sites and related instructions. •Be physically able to do the work and take a post-employment drug test at the sponsor’s expense.

For further information, applicants should contact the New York State Department of Labor office located nearest their home or the sponsor at 845-634- 4601.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate again applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
