Putnam Arts Fund Recipients Announced
The Putnam Arts Council is pleased to announce it has awarded $8000 to five nonprofit organizations to support cultural programs and services that will take place in Putnam County in 2007. These public funds are provided by the Putnam County Legislature and the program is administered by the Putnam Arts Council.
Each year, a volunteer panel recommends funding for the applicants it feels reach the broadest audiences and provide the greatest benefit to county residents.
The recipients for 2007 are:
*Butterfield Library to host a poetry reading by award-winning Poet Franny Lindsay and another nationally recognized poet to take place at the Butterfield Library in Cold Spring. $600
*Chapel of Our Lady Restoration Inc. for the 2007 series of free Sunday afternoon concerts featuring a variety of classical, jazz, opera and gospel music of exceptional quality to be performed in their Greek Revival chapel overlooking the Hudson in Cold Spring. $2000
*Landmarks Preservation Society of Southeast, Inc. for the 4th annual Summer Music Series at the historic Old Southeast Church in Brewster which will include solo classical performers, jazz, broadway and gospel music. $2000
*Nowodworski Foundation for their SITE Art Project, a series of art workshops and two resulting exhibits for middle school aged children at the Mahopac Library. The program stresses outreach to immigrant populations and multicultural projects. $1600
*Putnam Valley Historical Society as sponsor for historically themed performances by Michelle LeBlanc and her jazz band. "JAZZ: The Roaring Twenties" will feature informative anecdotes in addition to the concert and will be hosted at 4 or 5 venues throughout the county. $1800
