Bannerman Island Gallery Hosts Irvington High School Bannerman Art Show
The Bannerman Island Gallery at Castle Keep Realty will host the students of Irvington High School in a new art show featuring Bannerman Island. BCT historian Thom Johnson, who is an art and photography teacher at The Irvington High School, in Irvington, New York, organized a special class trip to study the architecture and the beauty of Bannerman Island in October 2006. The work featured was produced from this trip. Art works include paintings, drawings and photography of Bannerman Island. The show will open on Beacon's Second Saturday on January 13th and will run through February 4th. The opening reception is from 2 to 4pm.
Thom Johnson, who is a founding member of the Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. has been working in the Irvington School for over 20 years and is a tour guide for The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc.Tours of Bannerman Island- Hudson Highlands State Parks. Over the years Thom has led both Boy Scout and Girl Scout troups on volunteer projects for Bannerman Island. He is the co-author, with Barbara Gottlock, of the new book, Bannerman Castle. The Irvington High School Bannerman Island Art show is part of the Bannerman Island educational program that promotes both the arts and the Hudson Valley.
The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. will receive 50% of the proceeds from the sale of artwork in this show. The students will also receive 50% of the proceeds. The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. has just received a challange grant of $350,000 from The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation EPF Grant and is currently raising funds needed to match the grant.
