Marathon Property Development Will Foster More Tax Dollars for Putnam County (Reprinted at the request of the author) Dear County Executive Bondi,
The Western Putnam Economic Development Council (WPEDC) Marketing Committee read with great excitement in the January 3, 2007 issue of the Putnam County News & Recorder the front page article "Legislature Approves Tentative Settlement for Marathon Battery Property."
We recognize the wisdom of this vote, which will provide sales tax revenue for Putnam County, provide the necessary parking for visitors from across the tri-state region that clamor to visit Cold Spring on the Hudson, as well as a community center for our citizens.
It only takes a basic understanding of economics to see how this opportunity will foster more tax dollars for Putnam County by encouraging businesses that shall promote the adoption of economically, socially and environmentally sound sustainable business development through tourism and local community participation.
The WPEDC is proud that our government leaders are taking a leadership position and counting on the citizens of the Village of Cold Spring to be able to step up and support our county through tax revenue, continued strong community participation and fiscal responsibility.
Marshall Mermell Co-chair WPEDC Marketing
