Jean H. (Whaling) Berg

Jean H. (Whaling) Berg, 78, of Granby, NY, beloved wife of Howard E. Berg, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2007 at her home. Born in Cooperstown, NY, daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Tubbs) Whaling. She had lived in Cold Spring, NY before moving to Granby 29 years ago.

She was an active community member wherever she lived, was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce in Cold Spring, a founding member of the Ephemera Society of the USA and was a Ephemera dealer and appraiser. She was also was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, a Foster Mother of the Year in 1967 and cared for foster children Jennifer, Elizabeth and Geraldine. She was a volunteer at the McLean Senior Center and a member of the Golden Glow of Christmas Past and served on the committee for the National Convention held in New England. She was a member of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church and also had interests in gardening and her antiques.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jane Salisbury and her husband Donald "Critter" Salisbury of Oneco, CT; two sons, Jonathan Howard Berg and his wife Maureen of Monroe, Brian David Berg and his wife Christine of Hyde Park, NY; six grandchildren, Cristina Salisbury, Megan and Erin Berg, Corey, Kyle and Shea Berg. She was predeceased by a brother, Terry Whaling. Funeral Services were held on Jan. 9 at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, Granby, Rev. Dennis Moon officiated. Her family received friends prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
