BOCES Graduates Earn Communications Scholarships

Alexa Marinoccio, a former Tech Center student, presents Jacob Viens, 2006 Putnam Valley High School and Tech Center graduate, with the first memorial scholarship named for her mother, Rosamaria Marinaccio.
Three graduates of the Communications Academy at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES' Tech Center were awarded scholarships in recognition of their dedication and hard work in the nationally accredited program.

Brewster High School graduate of 2006 Beatrix Lurcza was honored with the Ingrid BoffiMemorial Scholarship of $500 in memory of a beloved 20-year teacher at The Tech Center. Beatrix, a student for two years in Sandra Garofalo's Advertising Art & Design class, is currently a freshman at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. "Graduating from here was the best thing that ever happened to me," Beatrix said to teachers and friends at a recent awards ceremony held at The Tech Center in Yorktown. "I left here with so much creativity."

Putnam Valley High School graduate of 2006 Jacob Viens, also an Advertising Art & Design student, received the newthis year Rosamaria Marinaccio Memorial Scholarship of $1,000. This commemorates the late mother of Alexa Marinoccio, a former Communications Academy student at The Tech Center. Jacob, currently an art major at Westchester Community College, simply told the students on hand at the ceremony, "Stay in school!"

David Kang, a 2006 graduate of Briarcliff High School and the BOCES' Communications Academy, was awarded the Scott Purdy Scholarship of $1,000. Named after a Croton graduate of the Communications Academy who passed away several years ago, the scholarship is given each year to a deserving student who has successfully completed Computer Graphics, TV Production, or Advertising Art & Design, the three classes that make up BOCES' Communications Academy. David, a Computer Graphics student for two years at The Tech Center, is currently a freshman at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In accepting the award, David told teachers and friends at a BOCES awards ceremony, "Everything you learn in Computer Graphics will definitely help you in college."
