BOCES' SkillsUSA Officers Earn Leadership Recognition
Students from BOCES' Tech Center at Yorktown participated in, and made their mark at, the New York State SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference. SkillsUSA is a national organization that promotes leadership and social skills for students pursuing trade and technical careers.
At the three-day conference, held in Syracuse last November, more than 400 students throughout the state participated in numerous skills competitions, meetings, and ceremonies. Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES' students competed in five events, all related to the coordination and development of school-based activities. They earned two first-place awards and one thirdplace award. Each student also received a "Statesman" pin for their ability to organize and run a SkillsUSA meeting and their knowledge of state and local government.
The Tech Center team included seven students and three faculty advisors (Larry Marino, Construction Electricity teacher; Meredith Cirilla, English teacher; Abigail Kapps, Cosmetology teacher). The successful team of BOCES' SkillsUSA officers are, clockwise from upper left: Chris Reo (Lakeland), Margaret Welch (Lakeland), Briana Fleming (Mahopac), Karry Brugger (Kennedy), Brittany Gordon (Somers), Candice Healy (Carmel), and Briana Bollotino (Carmel).
