Brooklyn Woman Assaults Another Woman in Philipstown

On January 4, 2007 the Putnam County Sheriff's Department arrested a woman from Brooklyn on an assault charge in Philipstown. Nina Collins, aged 37, of Brooklyn, was arrested after she allegedly struck and injured her former husband's girlfriend during an altercation.

According to the Sheriff, at about 2:38pm on January 4th, Deputy Sheriff James Babcock was dispatched to a home on Eagles Rest Road in Philipstown to investigate a reported dispute in progress. Upon arrival, Deputy Babcock determined that Ms. Collins and the other woman had become embroiled in an argument at the residence and that the defendant hit the 43-year-old victim, causing a minor laceration to her hand. The deputy arrested Ms. Collins and charged her with Assault in the Third Degree, a class A misdemeanor.

A conviction of Assault in the Third Degree carries a possible penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Ms. Collins was booked at the Sheriff's Office Sub-Station in Philipstown and arraigned before Philipstown Town Justice Stephen Tomann. The judge ordered her released without bail pending her next court appearance and issued a protective order prohibiting her from having any contact with the victim.
