Local Champions of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship Named

Six boys and girls from Philipstown, ages 10 to 14, were named local champions of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete at the district level. Loretto Council #536 sponsored the local competition at Haldane School on Saturday, January 13. Twenty youngsters participated in this year's competition.

John Hughes was the 10-yearold boy's champion (9 for 15) and Ryan Koval won the 11- year-old boy's bracket by shooting 13 for 15. In the 12-yearolds' bracket, Ian Thom was the boy's champion (12 for 15). Laura Campbell won the13- year-old girls' division (11 for 15). Jade Lyons won the 14- year-old girls' division (12 for 15) and Will Dean shot 11 for 15 to win the fourteen-year-old boys' bracket.

Each youngster who entered the competition received a certificate of participation. The champions will each receive an engraved trophy and championship certificate from Loretto Council and will compete in the district competition to be held in February with an eye toward moving on to the state and international levels.
