Cold Spring Village's Comprehensive Plan Special Board Chooses Leaders
The Special Board that was recently appointed to develop a Comprehensive Plan for the Village of Cold Spring elected their leaders at the January 20 meeting. They are Carol Casparian as Chair and Z. I. Sanchez as Vice Chair. Ms. Casparian has worked in marketing for Pepsi Cola and IBM and is now a stay-at-home mom with four children attending Haldane. A graduate of Vassar with an MBA from NYU, she is now in her third term as a leader of the Alumni Board of the Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, where she grew up.
She and her husband Michael have lived in Cold Spring since 1993, first in Forge Gate and now on Kemble Avenue. She is a member of the choir at Our Lady of Loretto Church. About the planning process, she says, "it is my sincere wish that the entire community will participate with time, ideas and enthusiasm. Working together we can produce an updated Master Plan that is acceptable to all."
Vice Chair Z. I. Sanchez is an architect, principal of zStudio, with more than 15 years experience in the USA and Europe. Since obtaining her masters degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art & B. Arch from Cornell, she has done extensive work with historic buildings, districts and communities. For the last seven years, her practice has been based in Cold Spring on Main Street. She has participated in the Putnam Riverfront Alliance and helped lay the groundwork for planning as Chair of the volunteer coordinating group that started gathering information last fall. She says she is "looking forward to working with Carol and the rest of the Special Board to serve this village, our home, for which we all care so very much."
The Special Board has designated the second Thursday of the month for their regular monthly meetings and the first Thursday for workshops, committees and other meetings. Their first workshop will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2007, from 7 to 9pm at the Cold Spring Firehouse. The focus will be on organizational issues. Anyone who would like to come and meet the members of the Special Board is welcome.
On Thursday, February 8, the Special Board will hold its regular monthly meeting from 7 to 9pm, also at the firehouse. This will be a training session for the board with Katherine Daniels, a Senior Planner with the New York Planning Federation who spoke at a public forum in Cold Spring last October. Anyone who might be interested in assisting with the planning process should feel free to attend.
