Senator Vincent L. Leibell will begin his new term in the New York State Senate as the new Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs.
As Chairman, Senator Leibell's responsibilities will include the oversight and approval of legislation relating to all aspects of homeland security, veterans issues and military and naval affairs. Senator Leibell's background in law enforcement and security issues will bring much knowledge and expertise to the leadership of this committee. Before his years in the Legislature, he was a Westchester County Assistant District Attorney. Senator Leibell is also a Navy veteran who served on active duty and rose to the rank of Captain in the United States Naval Reserve.
"It has been a great experience to have Chaired the Senate Standing Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions. During my tenure, the historic Public Authorities Accountability Act became law in 2006. However, I am excited about the opportunities, challenges and extraordinary responsibilities that come with this new committee. I look forward to serving as the Chairman of this committee which is so critical in providing protection for the State and aid to those who have fought and served our Nation."
