Communications Scholarship Offered by Women's Press Club of NY State
Community Foundation Offers Beryl Spector Memorial Scholarship

The Community Foundation of the Capital Region, in collaboration with the Women's Press Club of New York State (WPC), are accepting applications for the 2007 Beryl Spector Memorial Scholarship. The annual scholarship is awarded to a student or students pursuing college-level studies in a communications-related field. Applications are available from the Community Foundation website, www.cfcr.org, and must be submitted to the Foundation by March 1, 2007.

Each scholarship applicant must be a graduating high school senior or a matriculated, (i.e., continuing, already-enrolled, college) student. Each must also be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in either a two-year or four-year college or university located in the State of New York. The student must demonstrate clear career goals; academic achievement; leadership skills; and financial need.

Thanks to the Beryl Spector Memorial Scholarship, Andrea Nejman is attending Ithaca College this year, with a major in journalism. "Finances were definitely a major factor when if came to deciding where I would attend college," explained Nejman. "The funds from the scholarship allowed me to choose the school that I most desired- the school that offered me the best professors and the most opportunities to get behind, and in front of, the camera. I love it!"

The scholarship honors the memory of Beryl Ruth Stern Spector, a long-time member of the Albany-based Women's Press Club and prominent public relations professional.

"The Women's Press Club has a proud history of offering an annual scholarship to deserving high school and college students who demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to the field of communications," WPC President Karen L. Mattison said. "We are, once again, delighted to accept applications from young women and men who aspire to make a difference."
