Grace Knowlton and Ivy Dachman to Exhibit at Garrison Art Center Galleries

Garrison Art Center announces the opening exhibition of giclee prints of photographs, Bones, by Grace Knowlton in the Anita Hart Balter Gallery and recent paintings by Ivy Dachman in the Gillette Gallery. These exhibitions will open with a reception to meet the artists on Saturday, February 24, 4-7pm. All are welcome. The exhibitions will remain on view through March 25, 2007.

Knowlton began her career as a painter in the 1960s. After her move to NY, she set up a studio in a coal bin and began making increasingly three-dimensional paintings. They evolved into spheres that range in size from medium to gigantic. The spheres began to unravel and soon they were shards and she was back to 2-dimensional painting. Since then, she has traveled freely through various art forms, methods and materials. Knowlton is an avid collector of eclectic things that always find a way into her art. She has been digitally photographing her bones that she acquires and has an equally eclectic body of giclee prints of her bones. She works closely with Lisa Dieboll at Highlands Studio in Beacon to achieve the print quality she wants.

Ivy Dachman's paintings begin and end with drawing. She draws directly on sized canvas, then layers ground, color, wax and charcoal. These works evolve slowly through thoughtful exploration, coming to fruition sometimes with lightning speed. Shapes break the rectangle and move across the plane forming relationships and creating a monumental presence.

Dachman has lived in Westchester County for the last 24 years.. She graduated from the HS of Music and Art, received a BFA in Painting from The Cooper Union and a MFA in Painting from Queens College CUNY. She has exhibited in group shows throughout the Northeast, most recently at the Drawing Center in New York. In 1998 Ms. Dachman was awarded a Fellowship in Painting by the New York Foundation for the Arts. Her last exhibit at GAC was in 1992.

There will be a gallery talk with Knowlton on Sunday, March 18 at 3pm. She will show slides, give an overview of her career and have a dialogue with the audience. The galleries are open seven days a week, noon to 5pm. For further information contact: Garrison Art Center, 23 Garrison's Landing, Garrison, 424-3960 and visit www.garrisonartcenter.org
