Phil Heffernan to Run For Mayor of Cold Spring
Phillip Heffernan, a Village Trustee and longtime Cold Spring resident, has formally announced his candidacy for Mayor in the upcoming March 20th election, with the following release to the PCN&R:
"In making this decision, Mr. Heffernan expressed his sincere appreciation for the current administration. 'Like so many others in the community, I am grateful to Mayor Phillips for his 14 years of service. But it is now time for a change in leadership.'
"When I came to the village 17 years ago, I immediately felt a sense of belonging. Cold Spring is where I finally found a home. True to his beliefs, he stayed, raised a family, and become a dedicated member of the community. During his term as a Village Trustee, he has successfully initiated programs to make our government more accessible, and encourages a broader base of participation by local residents.
"A few of the many impressive effects of these initiatives include obtaining state funding for a Comprehensive Plan to better map our future communal development, and the creation and distribution of a Village Newsletter to keep everyone equally informed.
"I invite each citizen to become involved in the decision-making process. Your ideas and suggestions are critical to the future progress of village issues. Now we need a Mayor who will not only listen to those ideas, but work hard to implement them.
"A uniquely qualified candidate, Phil spends a great part of each day discussing and dealing with complex issues that face Cold Spring and many other communities in the Hudson Valley. These include senior housing and services, economic development and vitality, historic preservation, and real estate pressures, just to name a few.
"He continues to be a valuable voice of reason in village politics. I have the benefit of knowing the issues, the experience of dealing with them, and the vision to offer solutions. It's time to secure the future of our village. Phil speaks about our community with boundless energy and enthusiasm. We need a Mayor who will guide this community through the complex issues that face us, and I am committed to working on your behalf to protect our community's values, and resources.
"I enjoy working with the other members of our Village Board, and will rely on their help and insight as we work together to do all the jobs crucial to running our Village. There are many people who agree with Phil that Cold Spring needs a change in leadership. The change that I propose is healthy for our Village, as it will be based on my Board experience and a true love of our neighborhood.
"It is time to elect someone with fresh ideas and renewed vigor. We need a new Mayor, who is willing and able to forge the partnerships and creative thinking that Cold Spring needs to thrive in the years to come. I ask for your support in accomplishing these long-term goals by casting a vote for Phil Heffernan in the upcoming election on March 20th.
"He currently lives and works in Cold Spring seven days a week. You may contact Phil anytime at 265-2814, or phx@walrus.com."
