Putnam Children's Discovery Center Offers Programs for Winter Break and Beyond
No more "Mommy, I'm bored!" Bring your child to The Putnam Children's Discovery Center during the school break, with special "Come & Explore" hours 10:30-2:30, M-F February 19-23. This winter your child can enjoy a variety of hands on/ interactive exhibits for just $5 per child (adults and babies under 12months are free) during "Come & Explore" hours.
Five-week enrichment programs offered in science, art or acting begin in February and early March. If your child is in am or pm kindergarten, and you are wondering what to do before school starts or just after school ends, many classes have been scheduled with that in mind. Explorations in Science is a 45-minute hands-on learning experience; at times a bit messy; always fun, as young scientists unravel the mysteries of science. This program is offered for three age groups (3- 5, 4-6; and 6-8). The program on Thursday for ages 4-6 is scheduled so that AM and PM kindergarteners can attend at 10-10:45 am or 1-1:45 pm beginning March 1. On Saturdays ages 3-5 meets 10:15-11 and ages 6-8 from 11:15-12 beginning on February 17 (no classes on Feb 24)
For children 3-6 looking for excitement with a touch of science, the center offers The Little Explorer for ages 3-5 and Pizza and Explore for ages 3-6. The Little Explorer combines science, art and exploration on Tuesdays 11-11:45. The Pizza and Explore program is a great way to have a lunch date with your child and maybe meet a friend or two! The program meets Wednesdays 12:15-1. Stories Alive is a fun introduction to acting where children become the characters from familiar stories. This course combines art and acting. Stories Alive is offered for ages 4-6 Tuesdays, 10-10:45 or 1- 1:45. If your child loves to act, once they have completed a Stories Alive or Actors Workshop they are invited to join the Discovery Center Players, a fun acting troupe comprised only of children ages 6-15.
The Discovery Center is a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers. Parents are welcome to join the volunteer team and receive free birthday parties and programs in exchange for their time. Volunteers and their children make lifelong friends. Young children benefit by exploring the center while parents help with a variety of clerical duties. The Discovery Center is located a half mile east of Croton Falls Rd, at 854
