Putnam County Asst. DA MacCrae Selected as Instructor at National College of DAs

Putnam County District Attorney Kevin L. Wright has announced that veteran Assistant District Attorney Mary Jane MacCrae was recently selected as a faculty instructor at the prestigious National College of District Attorneys in Columbia, South Carolina.

At the course entitled, "Cross Examination", prosecutors from all over the United States were instructed in improving their techniques in this very challenging discipline for trial lawyers. Under real-life conditions, with volunteer actors portraying all sorts of witnesses, including defendants and forensic experts. Mrs. MacCrae, who has been a Putnam Assistant District Attorney since 1982, helped the student/prosecutors refine their skills throughout the rigorous five-day course which ended January 19, 2007.

Assistant D.A. MacCrae has instructed at the National College on four other occasions: prior Cross Examination courses and two Trial Advocacy courses.

The National Advocacy Center, where the course was held, is a quarter million square foot state of the art facility situated on the University of South Carolina campus in Columbia and is a joint venture of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) and the U. S. Department of Justice. District Attorney Wright, who has also taught at the National Advocacy Center, said the training programs and all travel and related expenses for the faculty and the student/prosecutors are paid for by the federal government. Wright said that in addition, the faculty and students receive necessary continuing legal education [CLE] credit hours for the course work which are required for attorneys in New York.

Wright said Putnam is fortunate to have Ms. MacCrae's courtroom skills and proud to share her talents with the National Advocacy Center in this mutually beneficial program. District Attorney Wright said the Center is also the centralized training facilities for all federal prosecutors which enhance interrelationships for American prosecutors at all levels- federal, state and local.
