Thomas Tracy
Thomas George Newbury Tracy, 52, of Cold Spring and Waterford, died Friday, January 26 at the Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center in NYC of esophageal cancer.
Tom was a Waterford native who graduated from Waterford High School in 1972 and then from Wesleyan, in 1977, where he graduated with honors in his double-major of classical studies and English.
After college he studied publishing at Harvard and then moved to New York City where he worked for several years for William Morrow, writing and contributing to books on travel and co- authored "The Book of the Bible".
In the early 1980s he made a career change into the field of computers and information technology, working first for an insurance company and then for banks, programming financial risk management systems for JP Morgan, Lehman Brothers, and most recently Credit Suisse, where he was the director of equity technology.
During his career, he accepted assignments in Singapore, Bangkok, and Tokyo, and traveled widely in Europe to manage projects and deliver professional presentations on various aspects of risk management in investments.
Outside of work, Tom had a great love of music. He played guitar in local bands all of his life and was a passionate collector of vintage guitars. He was able to use his skill and craftsmanship to restore many of the instruments that he owned
He is survived by a daughter, Katherine Ann Tracy of Poughkeepsie; his parents, Edgar and Louise Tracy of Waterford; a brother, William Tracy and his wife Dana of Longmeadow, MA; a sister, Ann Sweat and her husband David of Port Townsend, Wash.; and numerous cousins.
