| In January, Putnam Valley's students received the second visit in less than a month from members of the Putnam Valley Rotary Club. Once again, Club representatives came bringing gifts for the students. In December, the club visited the Middle School and donated thesauruses to fifth graders. This time the location was the Elementary School and the gifts were dictionaries for third graders.
The Rotary representatives were President Robert Walker, Vice President Carl Sandberg, and several other active members. In addition to the Rotarians, Superintendent of Schools Gary Tutty, Principal Jamie Edelman, and Assistant Principal Louise Frangella were in attendance in the PVES Old Gym, along with a room full of expectant third graders and their teachers.
Mr. Tutty, the retiring Putnam Valley Superintendent of Schools, made the introductions and emphasized how important his dictionary has been to him over the years.
This is the second year that the PV Rotary has visited PV schools with book donations. Last winter they gave dictionaries to third graders at the PV Elementary School. This program is the brainchild of Mr. Walker, who said that a friend of his, the president of the Jersey City Rotary organization, had overseen Rotary dictionary distributions to Jersey City third graders for a number of years.
