Knights of Columbus Loretto Council Free Throw Winners Advance to Downstate Tournament
The Knights of Columbus Loretto Council #536 sent 6 boys and girls to the District 52 Free Throw Competition, which was held on February 10 at the Capuchin Youth and Family Ministries Gym in Garrison, and 5 of them came home winners.
Moving on to the Regional Competition at Mt. St. Mary's College in Newburgh will be John Hughes, age 10 (15 for 25), Ryan Koval, age 11 (19 for 25), Laura Campbell, age 13 (17 for 25), Jade Lyons, age 14, (20 for 25) and Ian Thom, age 12. Ian had a battle with Zack Gindes of St. Mary's Council, Fishkill by both shooting 20 for 25. In the first 5- shot tie-breaker, each shot 4 for 5 and in the final tie-breaker, Ian shot 5 for 5 to beat Zack by one shot.
The winners of this competition will advance to the Downstate Tournament being held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School in March.
