Landscape Designer Marie Stella Keynote Speaker at Cornell Cooperative Extension's Spring Gardening School
New homeowners, and experienced gardeners as well, will find a fully packed day of learning at Putnam County Cornell Cooperative Extension's 2007 Spring Gardening School, Saturday, March 24, from 9am to 3pm.
Marie Stella, noted landscape designer and lecturer at the New York Botanical Garden, is the keynote speaker for the event. She will be talking about how to design beautiful gardens with minimal environmental impact. Eight more classes on two learning tracks will offer great opportunities to get the latest information about seed-starting, pruning, designing with heirloom vegetables and water.
Attendees will learn foolproof ways to grow two of the hottest trends today: herbs and Hydrangeas, which are making a big comeback in the landscape. A very special class, "Gardening for Guys," will talk about the three basics: turf, tools and trees. This class is, of course, open to both men and women. Experienced Master Gardener volunteers teach all classes.
Registration for the event, which will be held at the Putnam County Emergency Training Center in Carmel, is $25 per person, which includes Marie Stella's class and all other classes, plus many fact sheets and how-to booklets and door prizes. A gourmet box lunch is available for an additional $10 per person. Register by March 16th by calling Cornell Cooperative Extension at 845-278- 6738 or download the registration form at www.cce.cornell.edu/putnam.
