Garrison 8th Graders Choose a Charity
During the fall, the Garrison graduating 8th grade class of 2007 sponsored its' first Walka thon. The students were very eager to participate in this wonderful event and enjoyed planning the event for the entire school. The purpose of the Walk-a-thon was to raise money for their 8th grade trip. The students discussed options on how to spend the money and as they talked they felt strongly that they would like to use ½ of the money for their 8th grade trip and give ¼ towards the walking path which has been discussed as a long range district goal. They would also give ¼ to a charity that they would pick at a later date.
During the students' library/ computer classes, the 8th graders explored various organizations that they would like to donate the money to. The students spent time in the computer lab starting with a web site called charitynavigator.com. Through their research and discussion, they voted on the charity they felt would be most appropriate. The Garrison School class of 2007 is proud to announce that they will be sending approximately $1700 to the Children's Leukemia Society.
The class would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members and parents in the community for supporting their efforts. They appreciate your generosity and goodwill and thank you for your support.
