Cary Downey to Run For Trustee of Cold Spring Board

The following is a statement from Mr. Downey announcing his candidacy:

"After many discussions with my family and members of the community, I have decided to run for public office. As the village grows and different demands are placed on the village board there are changes that must be made.

"Being a business man, the way we go about change is important if we are to move forward with the support of the people we must include all the people in our community and not just a few. The vociferous minority must not decide what is best for the majority. People who have lived here all their lives must be considered as well as newcomers. All people's opinions and comments should be treated with respect and not ignored.

My roots go back five generations to Italian and Irish immigrants. My grandfather J.R. Downey was town supervisor and chairman of the Putnam County Board of Supervision and was in local politics for 35 years. My grandfather Mike Scalpi was the Civil Defense Director for Putnam County and an active member of the community. I am a graduate of the Malcolm Gordon School, St. Thomas Moore Prep and Assumption College.

As a business man I come in contact with many people, young, old, homeowners, renters and realtors etc. I talk and listen to each of their concerns and ideas about the way forward to benefit all the community. I hope to be their voice and serve them with integrity, honesty and respect.
