Snowball Softball for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society a Great Success
On Saturday, February 10th, 33 teams conquered Old Man Winter and competed in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 12th Annual Snowball Softball Mike Kmetz Memorial Tournament. The event was a huge success, blowing the $22,000 dollar goal out of the water by raising a tremendous $36,336. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society would like to thank all of its sponsors and supporters who helped make this year's Snowball Softball Tournament such a great success.
The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of the patients and their families. Although the cure rates for these diseases has increased, leukemia remains the number one killer of children under the age of 15, and during the last quarter century, lymphoma was the fastest growing cancer, with new cases increasing by more than 70%. The money raised through fundraising events supports research, public education, patient aid, community service and professional education. According to the Society, nearly seventy-five cents of every dollar raised is used to fulfill this mission.
