Putnam Women's Resource Center to Form Children's Support Group
As part of ongoing service to children in the area, the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women's Resource Center will be forming a children's support group. This six week program will meet Monday evenings from 5:30-6:30pm, March 5th-April 16th. Topics will be growth-oriented and address children's concerns in reference to having lived with domestic violence. They will include, but not be limited to: self image, self-esteem, acknowledging feelings, and assertiveness training. The Women's Center is open Monday through. Friday from 9:30am to 4:30pm, Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm and other times by appointment and for groups and special programs. The telephone number is 845- 625-9284 and the hotline number is 845-628-2166.
Programs offered by the Women's Center in its Domestic Violence Program include a shelter for battered women and their children, advocacy with service systems, a domestic violence support group, professional and peer counseling, community education and a 24-bour hotline: 845-628- 9284. There is a suggested donation of $5 to $50 for some services and program; however, no one is refused services based on ability to pay.
The Women's Center Sexual Assault Program includes individual and group counseling for survivors and their significant others, support groups for survivors of rape or incest, advocacy withh service systems, sexual assault prevention program, and a 24-hour hotline for victims of sexual assault.
The Putnam/Northern Westchester Women's Resource Center is a private, nonprofit tax-exempt agency partially funded by United Way; Guideposts Associates; the Putnam County Department of Social Services and Youth Bureau; the New York State Department of Health, Crime Victims Bureau Office of Children and Family Services; and by private and corporate donations. The center is a multiservice agency that offers services in the Putnam and Northern Westchester areas.
