Southeast Man Arrested on Warrant
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the February 4, 2007 arrest of a man from Southeast on an outstanding warrant.
At about 1:26am on February 4th, Deputy Sheriff Scott Lombardo was patrolling along Route 6 in Southeast when he initiated a traffic stop of a speeding vehicle. During that stop, Deputy Lombardo conducted a computer check of the operator's license. That check revealed the operator - identified as Eric Smith, 20, of Tillman Lane in Southeast - had an outstanding warrant-in his name.
Deputy Lombardo took Mr. Smith into custody on the warrant, issued by the Town of Southeast Justice Court for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Deputy Lombardo also issued the defendant a traffic summons for speeding. Mr. Smith was arraigned by Southeast Town Justice James Borkowski and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $165 bail. The defendant will return to the Southeast Justice Court at a future date.
The underlying charge Unlawful Possession of Marijuana is a violation, which is punishable by a fine of up to $100. The traffic infraction is generally punishable by a determined by the court.
