Narcotics Investigation Nets Trio in Patterson
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrests of three Patterson men for selling narcotics in that Town. The arrests were the fruits of a four-month investigation by the CountywideNarcotics Enforcement Unit.
The defendants are Aaron Timpson of Orchard Street, Andrew Cole of Route 311 and Thomas Burns of Ice Pond Road. The three men, who are all 22 years old, allegedly sold quantities of cocaine and marijuana to an undercover member of the Narcotics Unit in a series of "controlled buys."
Mr. Timpson was arrested on January 23rd as he was walking on the street near his residence. Mr. Cole was apprehended on January 24th at his home. Mr. Burns was taken into custody on January 25th, after narcotics officers spotted him driving a vehicle along Route 22 in Patterson and pulled him over.
All three defendants were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, both class B felonies, Mr. Cole was additionally charged with Criminal Sale of Marijuana, a class A misdemeanor.
While officials were processing Mr. Burns, they discovered quantities of cocaine and marijuana in his possession. Consequently, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a class A misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation, in addition to the original charges stemming from the earlier drug sales.
The defendants were processed at the Sheriff's Office headquarters in Carmel, and then arraigned before Patterson Town Justice John King. The justice remanded them to the Putnam County Correctional Facility, setting Mr. Timpson's bail at $2,500 and Mr. Cole's and Mr. Burns's bails at $5,000 bond. The most serious charges against the defendants are punishable by up to 25 years' imprisonment and maximum fines of $30,000.
