Prostitution Charges Against Trio

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the February 12, 2007 arrests of two Queens County residents and one Westchester County resident on prostitution charges. The arrests took place in the Town of Patterson.

At about 10:45pm on February 12th, members of the Countywide Narcotics Enforcement Unit took Cesar Arequipa, 35, of 99th Street in Queens, NY, Maria Ortiz, 45, of Croton Avenue in Ossining, NY, and Yackelin Perez, 26, of 80th Street in Queens, NY, into custody on prostitution charges. The arrests were the result of an investigation into a suspected prostitution ring within the Town of Patterson and Village of Brewster. Investigators learned residents in Patterson and Brewster looking for sexual contact would contact Mr. Arequipa and Ms. Ortiz, who would then arrange for a prostitute be dropped off a the "client's" residence.

Mr, Arequipa, and Ms. Ortiz were both charged with Promoting Prostitution in the Fourth Degree, a class A misdemeanor. Ms. Perez was charged with Prostitution, a class B misdemeanor. All three defendants were arraigned before Patterson Town Justice Roger Tricinelli. Mr. Arequipa and Ms. Ortiz were each remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,000 cash or $10,000 bond. Ms. Perez was held in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 bond. All three were subsequently released after bail was posted.

The defendants are scheduled to return to the Patterson Court on March 8, 2007. If convicted of the A misdemeanor charge, Mr. Arequipa and Ms. Ortiz could each face up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000, while Ms. Perez faces up three months in jail and a fine of up to $500 if convicted of the B misdemeanor charge.
