Philipstown Bravehearts Take on Harlem Wizards
Garrison Children's Education Fund/Garrison School PTA Fundraiser Fills the House

Playing to a packed crowd undaunted by the freezing conditions outside the Garrison School gym, the Philipstown Bravehearts, a local team gathered for the occasion, gave the Harlem Wizards, the 45-yearold professional performance team, a run for its money in an exhibition basketball game held to raise school-support money for The Garrison Children's Education Fund, Inc. and the Garrison School PTA.

The game took place on Thursday, February 15, following the Valentine's Day snowfall. Classes for the day had been cancelled. Under the stupendous direction of Coaches Amy and Mike Kuchera and Board of Education member Jim Cannon, the blue-jerseyed Bravehearts- all wearing the number 1- consisted of Andy "Mr. Versatility" Brief, Jim "The Cannon" Cannon, John "Frodo" Froats, Michael "Psych" Harris, Linda "Big Red" Hoffmann, Roger "Zoom Zoom" Hoffmann, Amy "Feisty and Quick" Kuchera, Mike "Mike the Coach" Kuchera, Anthony "The Thief" Lacatina, Steve "The Wonder" Marino, Tommy "Chief" Nastasi, Chip "The Shredder" Rowe, Joey "Mr. 3 Point" Virgadamo and Tommy "Triple Double" Virgadamo. Former Board of Education member Jeff Dain served as Referee/Placer for the event and Booster Nat Prentice provided "color."

The game ended in a close score of 111 to 97 with the Wizards coming out on top, but not by much. The pom-pomwaving cheerleaders who had to be seven and under to qualify included Sophia Azznara, Anna Brief, Victoria Ferguson, Anna Lismanis, Isabella Patriarca, Hannah Regele, Anna Rowe, and Emma Scali. When the game was over, two dozen happy young fans did the Macarena and danced to Cotton Eyed Joe under the Wizards' direction and to the thunderous applause of those sitting on the sidelines. Special thanks go to all of the many local sponsors and also to Gloria Colucci, Superintendent, and the staff of Garrison Union Free School District and the Garrison Ambulance Corps.
