Hearing Set for Amendment to Quarry Pond Development District
Student film to be shot at Garrison's Landing
by Maria Theodore Leiter

At their February 21, 2007 weekly workshop meeting, the Philipstown Town Board set a hearing date for an amendment being considered for the Quarry Pond Development District.

The amendment, which was discussed at a previous town board monthly meeting, would increase the number of age restricted housing units that could be built at the proposed Quarry Pond project from 68 to 80. It would relocate the development entrance that would have been on Horton Road. In addition, the proposal would free the Town from having to maintain the access road, because it would be a private road belonging to the development. As part of the agreement for these changes, the developer would contribute $150,000 toward the cost of a proposed red light at Route 9 and East Mountain Road South.

The hearing will be held on March 17 at the VFW hall on Kemble Avenue in Cold Spring.

"I feel that it is an improvement to the project," Councilwoman Betty Budney told the PCN&R. "It relieves the congestion of traffic on Horton Road. I think it is a very good idea to have it off of 9."

The Board also authorized a parade permit for the use of the road at Garrison's Landing by a New York University student in the making of a student film. The filming will take place on March 6.

Two resolutions authorizing the Supervisor to sign consultant contracts were approved. One was to reaffirm the contract with Wellington, Carvalho Storm Water Management Consultants, the other for Valuation Advisory Group, who will update the Town's fixed asset report. The Town is required to hire the consultants to comply with new state environmental and federal accounting regulations.

Finally, the Board approved the 2006 Point Listing for the Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Length of the Service Award Program.

"It's a good incentive to keep people involved and it encourages people to stay," Budney said The Philipstown Town Board will meet for their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 1 at 8pm in the Town Hall.
