Carmel Man Arrived for DWI and Drug Possession
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports on February 19, 2007 at approximately 0112 hours, Deputy William Quick responded to the Carmel Diner for a report of an intoxicated male passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle in the parking lot.
Upon arrival the deputy located the vehicle in question with the engine still running. After some time the deputy was able to wake the subject and advise him to roll down his window. The operator, Martin J. Dillon, 27, of 112 Horse Pond Rd. Carmel, finally compiled and rolled down his window. The deputy then questioned Mr. Dillon and immediately detected a strong odor of an alcohol on the operator's breath.
Based on the odor of alcohol, the glossy eyes and impaired speech the deputy had Mr. Dillon step out of his vehicle in order to perform field sobriety tests. As he exited the vehicle the deputy observed that he was having a difficult time standing. Mr. Dillon was then transported to the Putnam County Sheriff's department and after further investigation he was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.
Deputy John Wynne assisted Deputy Quick with an inventory of Dillon's vehicle. During the inventory the deputies discovered a marijuana cigarette in the ashtray and a cigarette pack containing two rolled one dollar bills with white colored powder residue. Those items were seized as evidence by the deputies.
The defendant was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession Controlled Substance 7th and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The defendant was arraigned for Carmel Justice Court by Judge James Borkowski in the Town of Southeast Court and was committed to the Correctional Facility on $250 cash or $500 bond. He is due to return to the Town of Carmel Court on February 26, 2007 for future court proceedings.
