Sanitation Employee Injured in Putnam Valley
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports on Friday, February 16, 2007 at 0754 hours, the Putnam County Sheriff's department was dispatched to a report of a Personal Injury Auto Accident hitand run (pick-up vs. pedestrian) in the vicinity of 68 Peekskill Hollow Road.
Sergeant William Mooney and Deputies Luigi Osso and Richard Mansfield responded, along with members of Putnam Valley Fire Department, Putnam Valley Ambulance Corps and Empire EMS. It was determined that the victim, Carlo Savoca, 31, of 1242 Bradford Avenue, Bronx, NY, an employee of A&N Transporting of Mahopac, was riding on the rear of an A&N garbage truck traveling southbound on Peekskill Hollow Road when he was struck by a large piece of ice that had blown from the roof of a passing pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup, possibly unaware that the accident had occurred, continued to travel northbound. When the driver of the garbage truck stopped his vehicle a short distance later, the victim stepped from the rear of the truck and collapsed in the middle of the roadway. Mr. Savoca was transported via Putnam Valley Ambulance Corp to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he was reported to be in stable condition while receiving treatment for blunt force trauma to the left side of his back. Police are seeking the driver of the pickup truck for questioning. Any witnesses to the accident are requested to contact the Putnam County Sheriff's Department at (845) 225-4300.
