Joseph Anthony Larese
Joseph Anthony Larese, 83, Cold Spring, died Tuesday February 20 after a long illness.
Born July 10, 1923 in New York City, he was the son of the late Giovanni Larese and Emilia Colletti Larese. Joseph Larese was an accomplished accordionist and musician who at the age of 16 became a runner up in a national accordionists' competition. He made numerous appearances as a professional musician on the Major Bowes Amateur Hour. Famed accordionist Charles Magnante and guitarist Tony Mottola were personal friends and colleagues.
He attended schools in Yonkers and graduated from Saunders High School. At the age of 19 he was entered the Armed Forces and he trained at Fort Dix. He served honorably in the Pacific during World War II in the Army as an amphibious engineer. He participated in numerous landings at Milne and Oro Bay, New Guinea.
In 1947 he married Gloria Varella of Peekskill. He was employed at Anchor Motor Freight in Tarrytown and retired in 1982. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria, and his daughter Linda Stollmer and son-in-law Raymond; sons John and Joseph Larese and daughter-in-law JoAnn; grandchildren Laura and David Kozelouzek, Linda, Lauren, and Andrea Larese, and Joseph and Jennifer Larese, and greatgrandson Jordan Satomayor, brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Blackie.
A Mass of Christian Burial was said Saturday, February 24th by Fr. Francis Ansboro at the Assumption Church in Peekskill and he was laid to rest at the Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt.
The Family would like to thank the Putnam County Department of Health's Nursing Services, members of the Philipstown Volunteer EMS, Hospice Care of Westchester & Putnam and the Rosary Hill Nursing Home in Hawthorne for their wonderful care.
