| Two teams of Hospitality Career Academy students from Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES traveled to Buffalo recently to compete against their peers across New York State. The four students who competed in Business Management against 11 other teams earned Honorable Mention status. The Culinary students competed against 13 other New York State teams.
The competition was a ProStart event sponsored by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The Business Management team participated in a Jeopardylike quiz and had to brainstorm responses to real-life Hospitality scenarios that might occur in a restaurant. These included an e-coli outbreak, a sexual harassment claim, a shortage of dinner plates, and missing money in the cash register.
The students all agreed the experience brought them closer together as a team. All seniors, they plan to help next year's competitors by preparing a study guide for the ProStart competition.
