BOCES' Teacher Recruitment Service Posts 10,000th Job
Since its inception by Putnam/ Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) six years ago, the On-Line Application Service (OLAS) has posted more than 10,000 teaching positions in more than 200 school districts throughout the state.
In addition, OLAS has attracted nearly 100,000 teacher applicants, whose resumes districts can peruse to help fill open positions on their staff.
P u t n a m / N o r t h e r n Westchester BOCES' OLAS is now the primary recruitment tool for school districts in New York State. It's a convenient and mutually beneficial way, via the Internet, for school districts and individuals seeking teaching positions to connect. Districts place openings for teaching positions and candidates place applications, cover letters, and resumes - all on the OLAS website. Districts can search for candidates that meet their specific needs and qualifications (certification, grade point average, language fluency, coaching skills, etc.). Candidates, in turn, sort through the openings and apply for as many as they wish. The system saves district money - on advertising, printing, and postage - and on time. It also allows candidates to easily sort through openings to find those that match their qualifications.
At a recent recognition of OLAS's six-year, 10,000-job benchmark, BOCES Deputy Superintendent Renee Gargano noted that the service "put our BOCES on the map" thanks to the "dedication, commitment, and hard work" of more than a dozen BOCES employees.
OLAS is truly a "homemade product" that has been made increasingly user friendly over the years, added Ms. Gargano. "It's an ongoing process: We'll continue to make it better and better."
